Philosophy-loving software engineer building tools for libraries

Greetings! I'm Michael Masarik, a software engineer based in the rolling hills and farmland of NE Wisconsin. My love of software development grew out of a love of pure logic. I was homeschooled, and one of my favorite classes in highschool was formal logic. I bring that precise thinking to all the code that I write

In my family, we didn't use technology all that heavily. That is, until a few years ago. We weren't against it, just didn't use it. In 2021, we opened Plumfield Library and quickly discovered that the tech that we needed was far too expensive for a "non-profitable" library like ours. I tried my hand at a little code and quickly realized that I really enjoyed it.

With the help of AI, I taught myself any language that I needed to accomplish a given task. Nowadays, I mostly use TypeScript and Go, with some Python (it is a great langauage, just a bit too slow and memory-heavy for my tastes). For frontend work I tend to stick with Vite and/or Astro.

I write now and then, mostly about software. The rest is on my blog.
